Een film portret van de dirigent Sergiu Celibidache, een fenomeen in de wereld van de klassieke muziek. Regisseur Jan Schmidt-Garre werkte vier jaar nauw samen met deze charismatische dirigent van het Munich Philharmonic en het resultaat is een uitzonderlijk beeld van een artiest en intellectueel gigant en een gepassioneerde visie op het creatieve proces.
Sergiu Celibidache (*1912 Roman/Roemenië – 1996 Parijs). Hij studeerde muziek, wiskunde en filosofie in o.a. Berlijn. Vanaf 1945 eerste dirigent van het Berlin Philharmonic tot de terugkeer van Wilhelm Furtwängler. Gast dirigent in Israël, Italië, Zuid Amerika, Frankrijk, Engeland, Scandinavië, Duitsland en Japan. Vanaf 1979 tot aan zijn dood verantwoordelijk voor het
Munich Philharmonic. Vele composities. Celibidache doceerde “Phenomenology
of Music” aan diverse universiteiten.
